FAQ

What Size Should I Order?

When it comes to sizing for a kimono, fit matters. We’ll help you find the right kimono and training gear so you can perform your best on the mats.

Not sure what size kimono you are? Our size charts can help you determine the best fit for all of our kimonos, clothing, and gear. You can navigate to our size charts using the link provided on every product page. Not all products have the same fabric, so the fit should be evaluated considering the size chart for every item.

Measurements for no-gi and other clothing items can be found in each product listing.

Please click the Size Chart for measurements. The Size Chart is located on all of our product pages. If you still have any questions about your size, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

How Do I Clean My Kimono?

Gracie Barra Kimonos are high-quality training products that should be taken care of regularly. When cared for properly, they will be durable and comfortable to train in for a very long time before deteriorating.

Washing Before First Use
Blue / Pink Kimono*:

  • Fill your washer with cold water.
  • Fully submerge your kimono in the water.
  • Let it soak for 20-30 minutes. After 20-30 minutes have passed, start the wash cycle.
  • Wash on a cold/gentle cycle.

* While these steps are most important for coloured kimonos, they are still best practices to use when washing your white kimonos as well.

Washing After First Use:

Wash Your Kimono After Each Use!

  • Turn your Gi inside out and tie your pants strings.
  • Wash in Cold Water, use colour-safe / mild detergent for blue and pink gis especially.
  • Add no more than ¼ cup of vinegar to control odours and bacteria (if needed).
  • Use a gentle setting.
  • Line/Hang dry in a dry room (if indoors) out of direct sunlight and in the shade (if outdoors).
  • If you need to put it in the dryer, use a warm air tumble setting OR low heat setting.

Note: Always wash your kimono promptly after training. Never let your kimono sit inside your gym bag or in your car. This will encourage odours and bacteria growth.

DO NOT

  • Bleach
  • Use hot water
  • Dry in sun
  • Dry on high heat in dryer
  • Let your kimono sit inside your bag or car after use

Odours

If your kimono/gi has an unpleasant odour, allow it to soak in a basin full of water with ¼ vinegar solution for several hours before washing, or add ½ cup of baking soda when you wash it.

DISCLAIMER

Your kimono is not going to last forever. The more you train, the more you use it, the quicker it will wear out. This is good! It means that you are working hard and training hard. Your blue or pink kimono will fade over time, this is normal wear and tear. The more you use it and the more you wash it, the colourfast will gradually fade. This will happen with any coloured gi, and means that you are working hard and training hard!

Can I Buy A Kimono Without the Gi Pants?

Kimonos are sold as a uniform with the Kimono Top and the Gi Pants Bottoms.
